Getting started

Open Entz in your browser and write your first document straight away. Sign in later, when you want your documents on every device and other people in them.

Entz runs in the browser at entz.app. There is nothing to install and you need no account to start: until you sign in, the documents you make are kept in this browser. Apps for iPhone, iPad and Android are in testing, and Web, iOS and Android says where Entz runs today.

  1. Open https://entz.app. On your first visit the library holds three sample documents: Welcome to entz, a tour of the editor, then How it works and Syncing & collaboration. They are ordinary documents, so change them, or delete them when you are done (they do not come back).
  2. Press New… at the top of the page, or the round + button at the bottom right, and choose Blank document. The same menu imports files (Import files…) and opens a document someone sent you (Open by id…).
  3. Type a title. A new document starts with a heading, and the caret is already in it. Until you rename the document, the library names it after that heading.
  4. Press Enter and write. There is no save button: Entz saves a second after you stop typing.
  • Type Markdown at the start of a line: # makes a heading, - a bulleted list, 1. a numbered list, [] a to-do list, > a quote, and three backticks a code block.
  • Type / for the block menu at the caret: headings, lists, quotes, code, diagrams, formulas, tables, drawings and images. Keep typing to filter it, and press Enter to pick.
  • Select words to format them: bold, italic, a link, a comment.

Writing and formatting covers all of it, and Keyboard shortcuts lists the keys.

Signing in is optional. It keeps your documents on the server as well as on your devices, so they follow you from a browser to a phone, and sharing needs it.

  1. Open Settings and press Sign in, under Connection.
  2. Sign in on the page that opens. Entz brings you back to where you were.

Documents you already have on the server join your library. A document you made before signing in goes up to the server the first time you open it signed in. Offline and sync explains what is kept where.

  1. Open the document and choose Access… from its menu (the three dots at the top right).
  2. Press Copy link and send the link.

A new document’s link lets anyone who opens it edit, once they have signed in. In Access… you can let the link give Comment or View only, turn Anyone with the link off, or add people by the email they sign in with. Sharing and access has the details, and Presence and following shows how you see each other at work.

An agent can work in Entz beside you, whether Claude, Codex, Cursor’s agent or any other MCP client: it creates documents, fills them one section at a time while you watch its words arrive, and replies to comments. Add the entz-mcp connector to your agent as Connect an agent shows, and see Agents in Entz for what it can do.

Every document also has an assistant of its own, behind the sparkle in the status bar, which uses your own key for Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, xAI or Groq: see The assistant.
